“Painting places of personal significance allow me to do a long and thorough consideration. I am slow-moving by nature and circumstance. So I like the idea of unhurried close attention to a familiar place, noticing the changes that occur, and capturing them at various points in time. It’s the same with my longstanding obsession for clouds, sky, and water. They seem the best representations of pattern and light; constantly shifting abstractions, always evolving and changing. I love the idea of arresting them, and figuring out the specific light they’re made of.”
